My name is Megan, and I am a 28 year old IT Specialist, wife, and mother to both the two and four-legged kind. I am on a journey to cleaner eating and healthier living. 2016 is my year to aspire to not only be healthier, but to also be a more positive and mindful person.
One day I just got sick and tired of being, well, sick and tired! There was a lot of negativity in my life from people, events, and my own attitude towards things. I vowed to start 2016 off with a thankful heart and work on becoming a better person not only because of events that transpired but because I wanted to prove to myself I have the strength to improve all aspects of my life.
I’ve always been interested in clean eating, and I’ve been a regular at the gym for over a year and half, but as they say, “you can’t exercise your way out of a bad diet.” On February 22, 2016 something just snapped. I came home to no supper, nothing in the fridge but junk, and a bag of Reese’s peanut butter cups on the counter (guess what I ate for supper). The pantry was a disaster, and I finally told myself I do NOT sweat like a pig at the gym to come home and eat like crap. Operation Pantry Makeover was in full force. I threw out items that were no longer good, gave my mom items we have no intention of eating again, took an inventory of food, and wrote down how many boxes, canisters, and racks I’d need to overhaul this pantry. I also planned out two weeks of meals as well as some freezer meals. And so began the journey to cleaner eating and a healthier lifestyle (and I am serious this time).
Along with the journey of clean eating I also started practicing self-love, being more mindful, and allowing myself freedom from the “emotional vampires” as Judith Orloff calls them in her book “Emotional Freedom.” None of this is easy, but I am reminded to be gentle with myself as I am doing the best I can. Every day is a new opportunity to be a better person, and things is my life are definitely changing for the better.
I hope you see purpose, love, and health in your future. I’d love for you to join me on this journey to a healthier you. There are many ways to reach out to me if you need encouragement. We are in this together and have the power to be the people we have always aspired to be.
